Fifty-two questions to settle before you book Gammara

Updated 3 November 2026

Private phinisi honeymoon questions and answers for Gammara: fifty-two of them, in seven groups, from the whole-boat price of IDR 73,000,000 (≈ USD 4,479) to the sunset at Kalong. Each answer repeats a fact that also sits on its own page.

Fifty-two questions couples put to us

Couples ask us these before they book a honeymoon on a boat. Most arrive on WhatsApp late in the evening, and nearly always in the same sequence: price, bed, days, flight, weather. None of them is a trick question.

The answers are short, and each one carries a fact that also has its own page, with identical numbers. When the brochure is silent, the answer admits it and tells you what to ask. An honest blank serves a couple better than a guess we have to take back once the deposit is paid. There are not many blanks.

All of them, in seven groups

Our groups follow the way most decisions unfold, beginning with whether a boat this size makes sense and ending with the weather. Group one asks whether Gammara suits two people. Group two covers cabins, beds and bathrooms. Group three, the price, what it includes and what it leaves out.

In the fourth you will find the route, the sky and life aboard day to day. The fifth is about getting to Labuan Bajo and home again. Booking, paying and changing plans make up the sixth; season, sea, health and children, the seventh.

If something is missing, message us and we answer during the chat hours on the contact page (Daily 08:00–20:00 (WITA)). Good questions end up on this list.

Booking, paying and changing plans

Which days does Gammara depart, and is my date available?

The open trip sails Monday & Friday. 121 dates are on sale, starting with Friday, 6 November 2026. We confirm your date live on WhatsApp before you pay, and we never show who else is aboard. A private charter date is confirmed the same way.

How do we book, and what is the deposit?

Message us on WhatsApp with your dates, number of guests and trip length. A deposit of 50 percent holds the date, and the balance is due 30 days before departure. You can also pay the balance in Labuan Bajo on the departure day, in cash or by card.

How can we pay from abroad, and what are the fees?

We take a card payment link, PayPal, Wise, Revolut, QRIS and bank transfer. The card link costs 3 percent and PayPal 7.2 percent. Paying by card on the EDC machine in Labuan Bajo also costs 3 percent. Your own bank can add charges of its own.

Can we change the date or cancel?

Cancelling 60 days or more before departure refunds 50 percent. From 30 to 59 days it refunds 25 percent. Inside 30 days there is no refund. Rescheduling is free at 30 days or more, costs IDR 500,000 at 14 to 29 days, and inside 14 days counts as a cancellation.

What happens if the boat is replaced or cancelled on our side?

If Gammara cannot sail before your date, we act. The cause can be a breakdown, a survey, or a harbour or park order. We offer an equal or higher class phinisi on the same date at no extra charge, or a full refund. The refund is normally transferred within 2 x 24 hours once the conditions are met. We confirm in writing first. Decline the replacement and you get the refund.

Is Komodo Explorer a real company, and where are the reviews?

We are PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia, NIB 1805260128363, and you can check both. Our reviews page shows guest words about our company, with sources, and says plainly that no guest has reviewed Gammara through us yet. The two WhatsApp numbers listed on this site are our official ones, and anything we promise is promised in writing on them, with your dates and your names in it.

Are 2027 dates open for booking?

Yes. The open trip keeps its Monday & Friday pattern into 2027, and we take private charter dates for 2027 too. The 2026 rate card is valid to 31 December. We confirm the 2027 fare when you book, and if it changes before your final payment, we tell you first.

Cabins, beds and bathrooms

What is the difference between Jasmine, Lily and the Deluxe cabins?

Jasmine and Lily are on the upper deck with a king bed; Jasmine has a panoramic ocean view and Lily an ocean view. The four Deluxe cabins, Ivy, Azalea, Hazel and Iris, are on the lower deck with a double bed and no stated sea view. Every cabin has its own bathroom, a hot and cold shower and air conditioning.

Do the cabins have king beds, and can twin beds be made up?

Jasmine and Lily have king beds. The four Deluxe cabins have double beds. The beds are fixed and the brochure lists no twin set-up, so we do not promise one. Tell us your wish when you write, and we confirm in writing what the boat can do.

Does every cabin have its own bathroom, with a hot and cold shower?

All 6 cabins are en suite, each with a hot and cold shower and air conditioning. Nobody shares a bathroom, on the upper deck or the lower deck. Towels are on board.

Is the air conditioning on all night?

Air conditioning is fitted in every cabin. The brochure prints no operating hours, so we do not promise that it runs all night. Ask us before you plan around it. We confirm in writing what the boat can say.

Does each cabin have a real window?

Upstairs, yes: Jasmine looks out through a panoramic ocean view and Lily has an ocean view. The four Deluxe cabins on the lower deck have no stated view, and the brochure does not say whether any window opens. Tell us if a window matters to you. We note it.

Is there local Wi-Fi on board?

Third-party listings report local Wi-Fi, and the brochure is silent. The signal depends on where Gammara lies in the park, and we promise no speed or reliability. Phone signal also comes and goes. Plan to be offline. Download what you need before you sail.

Can we book a cabin with a bathtub or a balcony, or is there no such cabin?

Gammara lists neither a bathtub nor a balcony, and we do not add what the brochure leaves out. Every cabin has its own bathroom with a hot and cold shower, and the two upper-deck cabins have an ocean view from the room.

What can the two of us do on the open deck and in the dining lounge?

The dining lounge is ringed with large windows. The social deck is set up for gathering, yoga, entertainment, a barbecue on board, a movie night or a small private event, and it is open to the sky once the sun is down. A paddle board and snorkel gear are on the boat. On a private charter all of it is yours.

Choosing Gammara for two

What is the difference between a private charter and an open trip on Gammara?

A private charter hires the whole boat for your party alone, from IDR 73,000,000 (≈ USD 4,479) for 3D2N. An open trip sells cabin seats to guests who share the deck, from IDR 7,100,000 (≈ USD 436) per person for 3D2N, sailing Monday & Friday. The open trip includes the guide and documentation. A private charter does not.

Can just the two of us book the whole boat?

Two guests can. Really. The 1 to 6 guest band is the whole boat, so a couple pays IDR 73,000,000 (≈ USD 4,479) for 3D2N and no other guests come aboard. That is IDR 36,500,000 (≈ USD 2,239) each. The park package, the guide and documentation sit outside the price.

How many guests can Gammara take, and is it a quiet boat?

Gammara takes 12 guests in 6 cabins, two to a cabin. A party above 12 needs a second boat. On a private charter nobody else is aboard, so the boat is quiet by design. On an open trip you share the deck with other guests.

Which cabin is best for a honeymoon, and how early should I book?

Jasmine, with a panoramic ocean view, or Lily, with an ocean view. Both are on the upper deck and both have a king bed. On a private charter all six cabins are yours. Ask for your date early: we confirm availability on WhatsApp, and the date is held once the deposit of 50 percent lands.

Can we use any cabin on a private charter, and do the best cabins cost extra?

All six cabins are yours on a private charter, and no cabin carries a surcharge. The whole-boat price covers Jasmine, Lily and the four Deluxe cabins alike. The two upper-deck cabins are the natural choice for a couple, since they hold the king beds and the ocean view, and the other four cabins stay empty for the whole trip.

I am travelling solo: what do I pay, and who would I share with?

The open trip has a minimum booking of 2, and cabins are sold per person with two sharing. A single price is not published. Whether a lone traveller is paired with another guest or pays a supplement is confirmed in writing before you pay. Message us your dates. We answer during the chat hours on the contact page (Daily 08:00–20:00 (WITA)).

Is the trip Labuan Bajo to Labuan Bajo, and which islands do we visit?

It is a round trip from Labuan Bajo inside Komodo National Park, with no leg to Lombok. The 3D2N sample visits Kelor, Manjarite, Kalong, Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Taka Makassar, Manta Point and Kanawa. Rinca joins the 5D4N and 6D5N samples.

Can we dive, or is it snorkelling only, and is gear included?

Gammara does not list dive equipment; diving is arranged separately. Snorkel gear and life jackets are included, and the brochure prints no dive equipment. Dive insurance is mandatory for divers and is not part of the fare, so a certified diver who wants to dive should write to us before booking and read what we reply.

How much are the Komodo National Park fees with KEXI?

KEXI quotes the park as one package per guest: 3D2N: IDR 650,000 per foreign guest, IDR 350,000 per Indonesian guest; 4D3N: IDR 750,000 per foreign guest, IDR 350,000 per Indonesian guest. It bundles the government entrance ticket (IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day, PP 36/2024) with the ranger fee and local levies, and is paid on top of the boat price unless your quote says it is included.

Can I pay the balance on the departure day?

Yes. The standard terms stay the same: a 50% deposit confirms the date and the balance is due 30 days before departure, but you may also pay the balance in Labuan Bajo on the departure day, in cash or by card on the EDC machine. Card payment link 3%, PayPal 7.2%, EDC 3%; your issuing bank may add its own charges.

Getting to Labuan Bajo and your flight

What time and where is pickup?

On the open trip you meet at Komodo Airport or at your hotel in Labuan Bajo between 09:00 and 09:30, and the boat leaves between 10:00 and 11:00. On a private charter the time is agreed with your date. Pickup and the transfer to the harbour are included in Labuan Bajo.

What time does the trip end, and which flight can we take home?

A 3D2N trip reaches the Labuan Bajo pier about 12:00 on day 3 and ends between 12:00 and 13:00. Book your flight home after 15:00. Longer routes end at midday or in the morning of the last day, as samples. The harbour time moves with traffic, weather and tides.

Do we need a visa for Indonesia?

That depends on your passport. Some nationalities get a visa on arrival, others apply for an e-visa online first, and some need none. Fees and rules change, so verify them on the Indonesian immigration site before you travel. Our first-visit page lists the checks, including passport validity and the arrival card.

How do we get from Bali to Labuan Bajo?

Fly to Komodo Airport. The flight from Bali takes about 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and several airlines serve the route. Timetables change, so check each flight with the airline. Land the day before you board. Do not cut it fine. We do not sell flight tickets.

Is the transfer from the airport or hotel to the harbour included?

Yes. In Labuan Bajo the pickup from the airport or your hotel to the harbour is part of the fare. The airport is 2 to 3 km from town. A vehicle upgrade, if you want one, is quoted separately.

Where should we stay in Labuan Bajo before and after the trip?

Arrive the day before boarding and sleep in town. Hotels near the harbour keep the pickup short, hotels near the airport suit a late arrival, and the hotels page lists the choices for both. We show no hotel rates here. Our team can reserve a room for you and confirm the price with the hotel for your dates.

Is there a phone signal, and should we bring an eSIM?

Signal comes and goes. It is fine in Labuan Bajo and patchy in the park and on the islands, and Telkomsel has the best coverage there. An eSIM installed before you fly saves a queue at the airport. Local Wi-Fi is reported on the boat, with no promise of speed.

Price, inclusions and extra costs

How much does a private charter cost for two guests?

The whole boat for 1 to 6 guests costs IDR 73,000,000 (≈ USD 4,479) for 3D2N and IDR 100,000,000 (≈ USD 6,135) for 4D3N. For 5D4N it is IDR 135,000,000 (≈ USD 8,282), and for 6D5N IDR 170,000,000 (≈ USD 10,429). Checked on 3 November 2026. The park package, guide and documentation are outside these prices.

Is the price all-in, with fuel and tax?

The figure is the price of the boat, rounded and quoted as one sum, and the written quote lists what it covers. Outside it sit the park package, guide, documentation, alcoholic drinks, flights, hotels, insurance, crew gratuities and payment-channel fees. Nothing is added without a written quote. Nothing.

What is included and what is excluded?

Included: harbour transfer, the whole boat, crew and a cruise director, three meals a day and air-conditioned en-suite cabins. Also coffee, tea, mineral water, snacks, fruit, towels, life jackets and snorkel gear. Private trips of 4D3N or longer add a beach dinner setup. Excluded: flights, hotels, park fees, insurance, alcoholic drinks, crew gratuities, a guide and documentation.

Is the Komodo park fee included, and how much cash should we bring?

The park ticket is never inside a boat price. We quote a park package per guest and trip type, and the quote says when and where it is settled. The official ticket is IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day. Bring a little rupiah for tips and small purchases. The islands have no cash machines.

Is a guide or a photographer included on a private charter?

No. A private charter does not include a guide or photo and video documentation. Both are available on request and quoted separately. The open trip includes the tour guide and documentation in the seat price. Nothing is added without a written quote.

Is alcohol sold on board, or should we ask you?

Alcoholic drinks are excluded from the price, and the brochure lists none for sale. Ask us what can be arranged before you sail, and we confirm it in writing. Coffee, tea and mineral water are free-flow and included.

What does a Monday or Friday open trip cost for two?

Seats are priced per person with two sharing a cabin: IDR 7,100,000 (≈ USD 436) in a Deluxe cabin, IDR 7,850,000 (≈ USD 482) in Lily and IDR 8,100,000 (≈ USD 497) in Jasmine. Two guests in one cabin pay for two seats. On the open trip the guide and documentation are included, and the park package is separate.

What is the price per person if two of us take the whole boat?

Each of two guests pays IDR 36,500,000 (≈ USD 2,239) for 3D2N, which is half of IDR 73,000,000 (≈ USD 4,479). The same band covers up to six guests, so the price per head falls as the party grows. The park package is separate.

Route, sky and the days aboard

What does a day on the 3D2N route look like?

Day 1: pickup at 09:00 to 09:30, the boat leaves between 10:00 and 11:00, then Kelor, Manjarite and sunset at Kalong. Day 2: sunrise on Padar, then Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Taka Makassar and Manta Point. Day 3: Kanawa, then the pier at about 12:00. Traffic, weather and tides can change the stop order.

What time are sunset at Kalong and sunrise on Padar?

Both move with the month. Across the year Padar sunrise falls between 05:31 and 06:18, and Kalong sunset between 17:49 and 18:27, in WITA. In August the sun rises on Padar at 06:12 and sets at Kalong at 18:00. The best-time page lists every month.

When is the beach dinner, and which trips include it?

The beach dinner setup comes with private trips of 4D3N or longer. It is not part of 3D2N or of the open trip. In the 4D3N sample it falls on day 3, and the captain agrees the final order. Decoration, cake and a photographer are arranged on request and quoted separately.

Where does the boat sleep at night?

The boat spends the night at anchor. Where depends on the weather and on the captain's decision that day, so we name no bay in advance. Evenings are for dinner on the deck, a drink of tea or coffee, the stars if the sky allows it, and a long sleep before the next early start. Nothing else is planned.

Will we see Komodo dragons and manta rays?

Dragons are wild, so a sighting is hoped for and never promised. The Komodo Island walk is ranger-led and sits on the 3D2N route. Manta Point is on day 2, and mantas depend on tide and current, so we never promise them either. Padar has no dragons.

Can we see the Milky Way from the deck?

On a clear night, away from town lights and with no bright moon. Around new moon the sky is darkest. The boat spends the night at anchor, so the deck is still. Clouds can hide the stars, and we promise no clear night. Ask us the moon phase for your dates.

What happens if the weather changes the route?

The captain decides. The stop order can change, a stop can be dropped and the anchorage can move, and we confirm the new plan with you in writing. The sample routes say plainly that traffic, weather and tides rule the day. If a harbour or park order stops the boat sailing on your date, the replacement-boat terms apply.

How many days should a honeymoon on the boat be?

The shortest route we price is 3D2N, with sunset at Kalong and sunrise on Padar. 4D3N is the first with the beach dinner. 5D4N and 6D5N add Rinca, slower mornings and more reef. For two guests who want one walk a day, 4D3N or 5D4N is enough; 6D5N is long.

Season, sea, health and children

When is the best time to go?

There is no single best month. For calm, clear water, look at April to June and October to November. July and August are dry but windy, with the busiest anchorages. December to March is the wet season, with rain, the roughest water and weather closures. Our best-time page sets out all twelve months, with the sea, the light and the moon for each, so that you can weigh them against the dates you can actually take off work.

Is it safe after a weather warning, and what if sailing is closed?

The harbour authority gives sailing permission after checking forecasts, and the captain decides at sea. A harbour or park order can stop Gammara sailing on your date. Then we offer an equal or higher class phinisi on the same date at no extra charge, or a full refund. Once the conditions are met, the money normally returns within 2 x 24 hours. We cannot promise calm water.

Will we get seasick, and which cabin is calmest?

We cannot say, and we publish no motion measurement. Many guests find mid-ship and lower decks steadier, which points to the Deluxe cabins. Upstairs you get the ocean view and the big beds. Sit near the middle, watch the horizon and bring tablets from home. This is general advice, not medical advice.

Do we need travel insurance?

Travel insurance with medical cover is strongly recommended, and it is excluded from the fare. Cover that includes medical evacuation is worth having. Dive insurance is mandatory for anyone who dives.

What are the child prices and ages?

Children aged 0 to 2 travel free with an adult. From age 3 the full fare applies on the open trip. On a private charter the whole-boat price covers the party, children included. Each cabin holds 2 guests and no extra bed is listed, so a family of four takes two cabins.

How do we confirm vegetarian, halal and allergy needs before sailing?

Tell us when you book, and again in the last week. We confirm your needs with the boat in writing, and we promise no particular dish and no certified kitchen. Severe allergies need written confirmation, and you should carry your own medication.
