Gammara Phinisi
Four hills, six reefs, one boat, five days
Updated 3 November 2026
Komodo hiking and snorkelling on a private phinisi fits five days on Gammara Phinisi: 4 hills, 6 reefs and a beach dinner. The whole boat for 5D4N costs IDR 135,000,000 (≈ USD 8,282), or IDR 67,500,000 (≈ USD 4,141) each for two. Snorkel gear is included, and diving is not.
Four hills and a chain of reefs in five days
Day 1: meeting at 09:00 to 09:30, boarding between 10:00 and 11:00. Kelor's hill, then Manjarite's reef, then the sun going down at Kalong. Day 2: Padar before sunrise, Pink Beach, and a ranger walk on Komodo Island. Day 3: Taka Makassar and Manta Point, then the beach dinner.
Day 4 adds Rinca with a ranger, which neither the 3D2N nor the 4D3N sample includes, and Sebayur for a quieter reef. Day 5 is Kanawa and the harbour at about midday.
That is four hills and six reefs: Kelor, Padar, Komodo and Rinca on foot, and Manjarite, Pink Beach, Taka Makassar, Manta Point, Sebayur and Kanawa. The boat spends each night at anchor, and the captain decides where on the day. Every stop is a sample, and weather and tide can reorder them.

These stops swap order with tide and wind: Manta Point ⇄ Taka Makassar.
Times are operating patterns, not a timetable. Pickup is the only promise we make by the clock.
Walking days: Padar, Kelor, Komodo, Rinca
Padar is the hardest: 25 to 45 minutes to the main viewpoint on loose, steep ground, started in the dark about 65 minutes before sunrise. Kelor is shorter, 15 to 30 minutes, and steep. Both suit fit legs in good shoes.
Komodo Island and Rinca are walked only with a park ranger. Short, medium and long trails exist, and the trail you take on Komodo Island runs from 45 to 120 minutes. There is little shade, so closed shoes, long sleeves or sunscreen, and a hat matter.
A dragon is hoped for on both walks and promised on neither. Padar has none.
The walking is spread out, which is the point of five days. Only Padar demands a pre-dawn start. The other hills come after breakfast, with the sun already up, and a night at anchor between each of them. Two people on the whole boat set their own pace on the steps; the ranger sets it on Komodo and Rinca.
Reef days: Manjarite to Kanawa
Manjarite opens the reef week. Pink Beach is a snorkelling beach, with reef close to the shore, and a stop of 45 to 90 minutes. The sand is pale pink from crushed red coral, not bright pink, and its colour depends on the light and the tide.
Taka Makassar is a crescent of sand that shows at low tide only. Manta Point is a drift along the reef with the current. A life jacket is advised there, and mantas are common but never promised. Tide can swap the two stops.
Sebayur is quieter, not guaranteed empty. Kanawa closes the week with shallow coral and white sand, an easy snorkel after four days of salt.
Shoes, hats, and the bag you carry yourself
Bring trekking shoes with grip, a backpack, a hat, reef-safe sunscreen and a headtorch for Padar. The brochure also asks you to bring emergency cash, personal medicine and a flash drive or hard drive.
You carry your own bag on every walk. The boat carries nothing up a hill for you. A light daypack with water is enough for each climb, and the cabin is where the rest of the luggage waits. Free-flow mineral water is on board, so the bottle is filled before every walk.
Travel insurance is recommended for every guest. Divers must hold dive insurance, which the brochure makes mandatory for scuba. Send passport or ID details seven days before sailing.
Rupiah for an active five days
The whole boat for 1 to 6 guests costs IDR 135,000,000 (≈ USD 8,282) for 5D4N. Two of you pay IDR 67,500,000 (≈ USD 4,141) each, four pay IDR 33,750,000 (≈ USD 2,071) each, and six pay IDR 22,500,000 (≈ USD 1,380) each. The beach dinner is part of it, and so are all meals, coffee, tea and mineral water.
Park tickets are not in it. We quote the park package with your dates, because its rows exist only for 3D2N and 4D3N. A guide and documentation are also outside the price, as are drinks, flights, hotels and crew tips.
A longer or shorter trip is possible. A trip of 7D6N or 8D7N has no price on this page; it is quoted in writing on request. Checked on 3 November 2026.

Snorkelling is included; diving is not
Snorkel gear and life jackets are in the fare. The brochure does not print dive equipment, a compressor or a dive guide, so Gammara does not list dive equipment, and diving is arranged separately.
Certified divers who want to dive should write to us first. Dive insurance is mandatory for divers, and any arrangement beyond snorkelling is quoted in writing or declined. Do not assume it.
The reefs are good enough from the surface. Visibility changes with the season, and the current at Manta Point can be strong. A paddle board is aboard for the calmer bays, and the tender takes you to each beach.
Between hill and reef, the boat itself is the rest. Three meals a day, snacks and fruit, and a cabin with a hot and cold shower wait at the end of each walk. That is what makes five days possible for people who are not athletes.
FAQ
Can we dive from Gammara, or is it only snorkelling?
Snorkel gear and life jackets are included. The brochure does not print dive equipment, a compressor or a dive guide, so we treat the trip as snorkelling only. Divers must hold dive insurance. If you want to dive, write to us first and we answer in writing.
How fit do we need to be for the walks on a five-day trip?
Padar takes 25 to 45 minutes on loose, steep ground, and Kelor takes 15 to 30 minutes. The Komodo Island trails run from 45 to 120 minutes with a ranger. Fit legs and shoes with grip are enough, and slower walkers can skip a hill.
