The first night at anchor on a phinisi honeymoon: what to expect, hour by hour
Updated 3 November 2026
On the first night the boat sleeps at anchor, and where depends on the weather and the captain's decision that day. Sunset at Kalong falls at 17:57 in July and 18:01 in November. The king-bed cabins are on the upper deck, and the knock for Padar comes about 65 minutes before sunrise.
Sunset, then dinner aboard
On the 3D2N sample route, day 1 runs from the 09:00 to 09:30 meeting through Kelor, where you climb to the top, and Manjarite, to Kalong at sunset. The island takes its name from the Indonesian word for fruit bat, and the bats leave their roosts as the light goes.
Sunset at Kalong comes at 17:49 in May, 18:00 in August and 18:01 in November. Find the west-facing rail. After the sun drops, the blue hour lasts a short while, and then the sky turns quickly.
Dinner is served on board. A dining lounge wrapped in large windows holds the table, and the open social deck is there for after dinner. The beach dinner setup is a separate event that comes with private trips of 4D3N or longer, not with the first night of a 3D2N.
The anchorage and your cabin
Overnight the boat is at anchor. Where depends on the weather and on the captain's decision that day, so we name no bay in advance. A promise of one would be a guess.
The decision belongs to the captain because the sea can change it. Each trip needs a sailing approval from the harbour authority. It closed Komodo and Padar to tourist boats from 6 to 8 August 2026 for winds up to 24 knots, according to Detik. A plan on paper holds only until the morning.
Below you is a cabin of your own. The Master Cabin, Jasmine, and the Suite Cabin, Lily, are on the upper deck, with king beds, their own bathrooms with hot and cold showers, and air conditioning. Jasmine has a panoramic ocean view and Lily an ocean view. The four Deluxe cabins are on the lower deck, with double beds and no stated sea view. On a private charter all six cabins are yours, and we settle the cabin plan when you book.
The deck after dark
A boat at anchor is never quite silent. You will hear water against the hull, and now and then the anchor chain settling.
The sky is the reason to stay up. From April to October the bright core of the Milky Way, in Scorpius and Sagittarius, climbs above the horizon for part of the night. From June to August it stands high in the southern sky in the evening. Moonlight washes all of it pale, so ask us for the moon phase on your dates and prefer the nights around new moon.
Bring a torch with a red light, which protects your night vision, and ask the crew whether the deck lights can be dimmed for a while. We cannot promise that, and we cannot promise a clear sky. Cloud hides the stars on some nights, and the wet months, December to March, bring rain and rougher seas.
The social deck was built for gathering, yoga, a movie night and a small private event, so there is room to lie back on cushions.
Sky note. In November the sun sets at Kalong at 18:01, so full darkness comes about 75 minutes later. Allow your eyes 20 minutes before you look for the Milky Way.
The knock at the door
Day 2 of the 3D2N sample opens with the Padar climb. Guests leave the boat about 65 minutes before sunrise, a common guide norm rather than a measured time, and Padar's sunrise is 06:18 in July, 06:12 in August and 05:31 in November. In November the knock therefore comes before half past four, and in July just after five.
Breakfast follows the climb, then Pink Beach for snorkelling, then the dragon walk on Komodo with a park ranger. Taka Makassar and Manta Point fill the afternoon, and the order of those stops can swap with the tide.
It is a short night before a long, bright day, so sleep early. If that schedule worries you, a longer trip gives the nights more air. The 4D3N sample leaves day 3 gentler and ends it with the beach dinner, and the Padar climb still comes on the morning of day 2.
What we cannot promise
An almanac lists what it cannot know as carefully as what it can. Here are our limits, before you book.
- We cannot promise which anchorage you will sleep in. The captain decides, with the weather.
- We cannot promise a clear sky or a moonless night. We can give you the moon phase for your dates.
- We cannot promise decoration, a cake, flowers or a photographer from the brochure. They are arranged on request and quoted separately, and we confirm them in writing before you pay.
- We cannot promise dragons, manta rays or any wildlife sighting on a given day, and no operator can promise one.
- We cannot promise the order of the stops. Tide, current and the captain settle it each morning.
What we can state is on the page: the whole boat, 6 cabins, 12 guests at the most, and no one else aboard on a private charter. The rest is the sea and the sky, and they keep their own timetable.

FAQ
Where does the boat anchor on the first night?
Where depends on the weather and on the captain's decision that day. On the 3D2N sample route, day 1 ends with sunset at Kalong, and the boat then spends the night at anchor. We name no bay in advance, because a promise would be a guess.
When is the best time to see the Milky Way from the boat?
From April to October the bright core of the Milky Way is above the horizon for part of the night. The sky is darkest around new moon, so ask us for the phase on your dates. Cloud can hide the stars, and no operator can promise a clear night.
Which cabin should a honeymoon couple choose?
The Master Cabin Jasmine and the Suite Cabin Lily are on the upper deck, with king beds, their own bathrooms and an ocean view. The four Deluxe cabins below have double beds. On a private charter we settle the cabin when you book.
Is the beach dinner part of the first night?
No. The brochure includes a beach dinner setup on private trips of 4D3N or longer. In our sample routes it falls on day 3, and we confirm the day in writing. A 3D2N trip has dinner aboard and no beach dinner.
