Sebayur, a quieter day on the longer routes

Updated 3 November 2026

Sebayur Island snorkel by private phinisi: the larger of the Sebayur islands near Flores, added to Gammara's 4D3N and longer private samples. Snorkel for 45 to 90 minutes on a mild reef. Quieter than the day-2 stops, not guaranteed empty.

Sebayur, the quieter extra day

Sebayur is not on the 3D2N route. It joins the private samples of 4D3N and longer. There it gives the trip a slower day without another climb.

It is the larger of the Sebayur islands, near Flores, and it lies about 1.5 to 2 hours by boat from Labuan Bajo. Beaches and nearby reefs make it a snorkelling stop, and it sits outside the dragon trekking area.

On the 4D3N sample, Sebayur falls on day 3, next to the beach dinner that private trips of 4D3N or longer include. Where the dinner is held is agreed with the captain, so we do not tie the two together on paper.

It is a place to slow down.

Reef seen from above the surface

The reef is easy to read. Depth is between 2 and 10 metres, the current is mild and the snorkel takes 45 to 90 minutes. We rate it easy, suitable for most levels.

Float at the surface and look down. Midday is the best window for the stop, with the sun high and the light reaching the bottom of the shallows. Colour shows without effort.

This is the reef to choose if you are still building confidence. No pull. No deep drop under your feet, and nothing to fight.

We will not promise particular fish or coral. Visibility depends on the day and on the wind, and the captain chooses the side of the island that is sheltered, which can be a different side from one trip to the next.

A beach shared with few

Sebayur is quieter than the stops of day 2, not guaranteed empty. Other boats can anchor here too, especially in July and August, which are the busiest months.

Because the island lies farther from the harbour than Kanawa or Kelor, fewer day boats come. That is the whole difference, and it matters to a couple who want a stretch of sand to themselves.

A walk along the beach is the simplest use of the stop. Slow. The paddle board on Gammara is another, if the water is flat.

Bring a hat. The beach is a place for a long slow hour and a swim, not for a trek, and that is the entire point of adding the day.

Heading back from Sebayur

After Sebayur the 4D3N sample turns toward Kanawa for a last morning snorkel, then to the harbour at Labuan Bajo. The return time is agreed with the captain, since the longer samples do not print one.

The 5D4N sample places Sebayur on day 4, after Rinca. The 6D5N sample puts it on day 5, together with Kanawa. The boat spends each night at anchor, and where depends on the weather and the captain.

If you add Sebayur to a 3D2N request, tell us. The route would change into a different trip, and we would quote it in writing.

The weather has the final word. Wind or swell can move the stop or remove it, and the order on paper is a sample.

FAQ

Is Sebayur included in the 3D2N route?

No. Sebayur appears on the 4D3N and longer private samples, not on the 3D2N route in the brochure. It adds a quieter beach and reef day. If you want it, choose a longer trip and ask us for a written quote.

Is Sebayur empty of other boats?

Quieter, not guaranteed empty. It lies farther from Labuan Bajo than Kelor or Kanawa, about 1.5 to 2 hours by boat, so fewer day boats arrive. July and August are the busiest months, and other boats can still anchor there.
