Getting to Labuan Bajo for your honeymoon: hour by hour, from your front door to Gammara's deck

Count backwards from the boat. Gammara's brochure puts the meeting at 09:00 to 09:30, at Komodo airport or at your hotel in Labuan Bajo, and the boat leaves the harbour between 10:00 and 11:00. On a private charter the time is agreed with your date, and a flight can move it.

A morning with a buffer night behind it runs like this.

• 06:30 Breakfast, bags already packed.
• 08:30 Bags at reception, passports in your hand.
• 09:00 to 09:30 The meeting. Every name on the boarding list must match a passport, and we collect passport details 7 days before sailing.
• About 09:45 The short drive to the harbour. The airport is about 2 km from town, around 10 minutes by car.
• 10:00 to 11:00 Boarding finished, lines off.

Not one line of that depends on a flight landing on time. That is what the night before buys you.

Sky note. Sunset at Kalong falls at 17:57 in July and 18:01 in November. A 10:00 departure leaves about 8 hours of daylight for Kelor, Manjarite and the first sunset.

Land the day before. A boat that leaves at 10:00 cannot hold the morning for a flight that has not yet taken off, and the airport has closed before. Bisnis reported on 10 November 2024 that Komodo airport shut for a time because of volcanic ash from Lewotobi Laki-laki.

One closure is not a pattern. Even so, a spare night turns a disruption into a nuisance rather than a lost day of a trip you have already paid for.

The night also gives you a slow evening. Walk the waterfront, eat without watching the clock, sleep in a bed that stays still. A wedding week leaves most people short of sleep, and the first day aboard starts early.

Plan the far end the same way. The 3D2N route is back at the harbour around 12:00 on day 3, and the longer sample routes finish around midday or in the morning. Book the flight home for after 15:00. On a private charter the boarding and finish times can be adjusted to your flights, so send the flight numbers as soon as you book.

Bali is the usual way in. The flight to Labuan Bajo takes about 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes. Guides from 2026 list several flights a day on Garuda, Batik Air, Citilink, Indonesia AirAsia and Super Air Jet. One guide counts 4 to 6 a day, another counts 8 to 10 in the dry months, so the number is not settled.

Bali and Labuan Bajo share one time zone, so the clock does not move. A one-way fare is indicative at 50 to 150 US dollars depending on the season, from one dive operator's 2026 guide.

Here is a sample day for a mid-morning flight, not a timetable. 07:30 leave the Bali hotel. 08:15 at the airport. Take-off around 10:00. In Labuan Bajo by about 11:15.

If you arrive from abroad on a separate ticket, you collect your bags, check in again and clear security a second time. Leave 2.5 to 3 hours between the two flights.

Foreign visitors entering Bali pay a levy of 150 thousand rupiah, listed on the Bali provincial site. Check it if your plan includes nights on the island.

Jakarta has direct flights of about 2.5 to 3 hours on the same airlines. Jakarta keeps western Indonesian time, one hour behind Labuan Bajo, so a departure at 08:00 lands near 12:00 local time. One-way fares are indicative at 80 to 250 US dollars. Flying via Bali splits the day if you would rather sleep in the middle.

Lombok has a small link. Wings Air began flying Lombok to Labuan Bajo on 22 July 2025, according to Detik. The flight takes about 1 hour on a 72-seat ATR turboprop, with 3 flights a week at launch, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Another guide calls it daily, so treat the frequency as unconfirmed, and expect a tighter baggage limit on a turboprop. If no flight falls on your day, route through Bali.

A sea route from Lombok exists as well. Tourist boats take 3 days and 4 nights in the dry season, April to October, and one guide advises against it from November to March. For a honeymoon with a fixed boarding time, we would not plan it.

None of the 2026 guides we read lists a nonstop flight from those countries to Labuan Bajo. The common shape is a long-haul flight to Jakarta or Bali, then the domestic hop above. Singapore and Kuala Lumpur both have direct flights to Labuan Bajo, about twice a week each according to one operator's guide, so a connection there can work. Frequencies change with the season.

After a night in the air, sleep before the last leg. Either spend one night in Bali or Jakarta, or accept one long day and keep the buffer night in Labuan Bajo.

Entry rules come before any of this. Visa on arrival is open to nationals of 97 countries, including most of Europe and China, according to Indonesian immigration. The fee has been 500 thousand rupiah. On 12 August 2026 the immigration directorate announced a rise to 750 thousand rupiah for those who apply online and 1 million on arrival, and the report gives no start date.

Apply through evisa.imigrasi.go.id at least 48 hours before you fly. Keep your passport valid for 6 months with 2 blank pages, and complete the arrival card within 72 hours before you land.

Book the boat first and the flights second. A cheap fare is no bargain if the boat is taken that day.

• 4. Send flight numbers and passport details. The transfer between the airport or your hotel and the harbour is part of the charter.
