Whole boat or one cabin: what each buys, and what each gives up

Updated 3 November 2026

Private charter vs open trip on Gammara Phinisi: the whole boat for two costs IDR 73,000,000 (≈ USD 4,479), or IDR 36,500,000 (≈ USD 2,239) each, and a Deluxe seat on the open trip costs IDR 7,100,000 (≈ USD 436) per person. The first buys privacy and the beach dinner from 4D3N. The second is shared and includes a guide.

One vessel or one cabin: two ways to sleep aboard Gammara

Same boat either way, same six cabins, same crew. The difference lies in who else is aboard and how many days you get. Charter privately and the whole boat is yours for 3D2N or more, with nobody else sleeping on it. Join the open trip and you have one cabin for two, for 3D2N only, while other guests fill the rest.

A charter leaves on a date you pick, once we have confirmed it. The open trip is scheduled every Monday & Friday. Charters stretch to 4D3N, 5D4N or 6D5N and bring the beach dinner from four days; the open trip is the same three days every time.

Pricing works differently too. The charter is a price for the boat, in two bands: one to six guests, seven to twelve. The open trip is a price per person, two to a cabin, two guests minimum.

Rupiah for two guests, each way, laid out

Two people, three days. The whole boat costs them IDR 73,000,000 (≈ USD 4,479), or IDR 36,500,000 (≈ USD 2,239) each. A Deluxe cabin on the open trip costs 2 x IDR 7,100,000 (≈ USD 436); Lily, 2 x IDR 7,850,000 (≈ USD 482); Jasmine, 2 x IDR 8,100,000 (≈ USD 497).

So for a couple, the whole boat is several times the price of the open trip. We would rather say so out loud than leave a table to whisper it. What that extra money gets you comes next.

We checked both figures on 3 November 2026. Neither covers the Komodo park package (quoted with your trip), nor flights, hotels, insurance, crew tips or alcoholic drinks.

The things a shared sailing asks you to give up

Now the cost of sharing. On the open trip other guests are on the deck, in the lounge and at every stop with you. Meals are at the same table and you queue for the same tender. You sail on a Monday or a Friday, on the 3D2N sample, in whatever order the captain sets.

There is no beach dinner, since that belongs to private trips of 4D3N or longer. The pace is no longer yours to choose, either. Want another hour at Pink Beach? The captain has to weigh that against what everyone else wants.

That does not make the open trip a bad choice, only a shared one. Plenty of the quietest evenings on a phinisi are spent in company, and your cabin remains your own.

Cases where a Deluxe seat beats the vessel

If money is the first question, take a Deluxe seat. At IDR 7,100,000 (≈ USD 436) per person nothing on the boat costs less, and you still get a double bed, an ensuite bathroom with a hot and cold shower, and air conditioning.

It also makes sense if three days is enough and you would enjoy meeting other travellers. And if a guide and photo or video documentation matter to you, the open trip includes both. A charter leaves them out, and we price them separately on request.

For the king bed and the view on an open trip, ask about Lily or Jasmine. Each fare is in the table, and the next departure is Friday, 6 November 2026.

Constants that do not change with the booking

A good deal stays the same whichever you book. A 30 m boat, six cabins, twelve berths. A private bathroom in each cabin, with a hot and cold shower and air conditioning. Three meals a day, free-flowing coffee, tea and mineral water, snacks and fruit. Snorkel gear, towels and life jackets aboard.

Neither price includes the park package. In both cases weather and the captain decide which stop comes first and where the boat anchors overnight. And if Gammara cannot sail on your date, you are offered an equal or higher class phinisi on the same date at no extra charge, or a full refund. We normally transfer the refund within 2 x 24 hours once its conditions are met.

Both are booked on WhatsApp, both with a 50 percent deposit. That is all.

FAQ

What separates a private charter from an open trip on this boat?

A private charter is the whole boat, priced by guest band from IDR 73,000,000 (≈ USD 4,479), with no other guests and the beach dinner on trips of 4D3N or longer. The open trip is one cabin, 3D2N, from IDR 7,100,000 (≈ USD 436) per person, shared with other guests.

What does each of us pay if the two of us take the whole boat?

IDR 36,500,000 (≈ USD 2,239) each for 3D2N, which is half of IDR 73,000,000 (≈ USD 4,479). Because the band runs from one to six guests, a couple carries the full amount. We price the park package, a guide and documentation on top.

Do the two options use the same cabins?

Yes. Jasmine, Lily and the four Deluxe cabins serve both. On a private charter all six are yours with no surcharge. On the open trip you book one cabin for two guests, and the others are sold to other guests.

Which option includes a guide and photographs?

The open trip. Its seat price includes a tour guide and photo and video documentation. A private charter does not, so we quote both on request, separately. The beach dinner goes the other way and is private only.
